After securing an NFL team via relocation, and an NHL team via league expansion, history may be about to repeat itself for pro baseball and basketball in Las Vegas! The Oakland Athletics on MLB are looking to relocate, and Sin City is at the top of their list of potential candidates. Plus, the NBA Commissioner has said that if the league expands, Las Vegas would be a prime candidate to get a team. We also discuss the flooding in the city over this past weekend.
Remember when the American professional sports leagues were fighting sports betting expansion tooth and nail? They were worried about corrupting athletes. Worried about the integrity of games. But all that changed when the cash from gambling operators began to roll in.
With the regulation of sports betting spreading across the nation, Las Vegas is in fresh, new territory. The fact that there is now sports betting in 36 states means there is absolutely no reason that Las Vegas cannot have professional sports teams. The NHL and the NFL already have moved into Sin City. And if Oakland can’t keep their Athletics, then Nevada will be happy to welcome them with a new stadium. And Major League Baseball is in full support of the team moving to Vegas.
And it’s not just professional baseball considering the city. The NBA is not opposed to having basketball in Las Vegas. And even though none of their teams are looking for a change of scenery, the League holds its summer games there, and will consider Las Vegas the next time they expand.
