We’ve got turkey, gravy, and gambling news from Texas & Massachusetts! All ready for your Thanksgiving holiday! We begin in California, though, as we confirm the failure of the sports betting propositions which went before voters recently. Then it’s on the New England, Missouri, and Texas… with a bizarre story from Ohio as well!
First up, California sports betting Props 26 and 27 have both failed miserably. And that means that folks in California will have no sports betting until at least 2024. Neither the Tribal gaming initiative or the online sports betting initiative were able to obtain the 50% of votes needed to pass.
The story is better for Massachusetts sports betting, however. There, the state plans to have sports wagers up and running by the end of January. Online bets will be delayed until at least March. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission says that residents there should be able to visit a local casino and place bets on the Super Bowl, with mobile betting before the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
And what about that gambling news from Texas? Well, the Governor there said he was willing to consider the expansion of casino gambling and sports betting if he was re-elected. Well, he was, so we’re waiting to see if he actually keeps his word.
There’s also betting news from Missouri, where House Bill 4 was introduced last week and could legalize retail sports betting on riverboats in the state. There’s also a provision for mobile and online operators. A tax rate of 10% would raise money for the state’s “Gaming Proceeds for Education Fund.”
But after all the exciting gambling news from Texas, Missouri, and Massachusetts, we have a very odd story from Ohio. One so surreal, you just have to hear it to believe it. And even then, it’s just so strange!
