Our host is in the United Kingdom to report on the gambling news from America! While attending the International Casino Expo in London, he’s reporting on the launch of Massachusetts sports betting, an attempt to regulate esports betting for Pennsylvania, and the possibility of online casinos in the state of Maryland!
Our lead story this week is the roll out of Massachusetts sports betting. And of course, they waited until we were traveling to do it! Right now, the only place state residents can place bets on sporting events is at land based establishments, but that will change soon enough. Mobile sports bets should be up and running in time for the March Madness basketball tourney, with up to 11 online operators trying to get business!
Of course, Pennsylvania sports betting has been making gambling news for several years. However, one legislators would like to expand on what the state is offering with the regulation of eSports betting. That’s betting on video games! Nevada is already well on the path to regulating eSports themselves, and the activity is popular and growing rapidly. And it looks like more and more states will move to take advantage of this trend, allowing people to gamble on those a competitive video games.
Plus, there’s now some discussion about Maryland online casinos and poker. Full casino style games are a part of active legislation right now. And if approved the measure could go before voters by the fall of 2024. And then there’s Virginia and casino skill games. Sadly, the legislation to regulate those betting machines has already failed. Some of you may know that our gambling news YouTube channel has featured many casino skill games over the years. But even though that legislation didn’t make it, perhaps it will make a return. It would be great to see skill games get a fair chance.
