J.Todd is reporting from the Las Vegas Strip where there are rumors circulating that it could be closed to motorized traffic. At first, this could only be at certain times to allow walking, jogging, and biking. However, if it proved to be popular, it could happen on a semi-permanent basis! Actually, the Strip was closed for a while during the NFL Draft, and tourists seemed to like it!
Could county politicians really be thinking about closing the Las Vegas Strip? Actually, they already did, but just for a few days while the NFL Draft was in town. The Strip was shut down in order to allow folks to enjoy it for leisure activities, and apparently it was met with a lot of enthusiasm!
Now, some of these politicians have written legislation to close the Strip at various times throughout the week so that pedestrians can walk, run, and bike right down the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard. It could turn the area into a much larger version of the Fremont Street Experience. Rumor has it that if all goes well this could become something that happens more often than not.
What about the challenges associated with all that traffic? Well, the resorts all along the Vegas Strip are being consulted as we speak. Let’s see how this goes!
