The fight for Florida online gambling centers on expanded casino gambling, but this whole mess started as a way to bring sports betting to the state. Now, however, the Sands Corporation and the Seminole Tribe are throwing punches via lawsuits and legal actions, as well as accusations of sabotage, corruption, and conspiracy!
You may very well know that the battle over Florida online gambling is a fight for the third largest market in America. And so, what happens there could have consequences for casinos all across the country. The Sands Corporation is set to take on the Seminole Tribe in a deteriorating war for the millions of dollars in profits at stake, and it’s set to be a blood bath.
This all started when the Seminoles made an agreement with the state for a monopoly on sports betting. Legal challenges and lawsuits were soon filed by those opposed to this agreement, including the Sands Corporation, DraftKings, FanDuel and others. Now, the expansion of Florida online gambling rests on adding a constitutional amendment. But in order to achieve that, voters have to pass a measure during an election. And that has lead to a petition drive and a whole ugly mess.
The Sands Corporation accuses the Seminoles of illegally trying to sabotage their petition drive, as well as intimidating and harassing those gathering signatures. The Seminoles say that the signatures gathered were obtained illegally, and accuse those running the petition of widespread election law conspiracy!
We really should not be too surprised that things have deteriorated so quickly. After all, there’s a lot of cash on the line. Plus, this case could set some serious legal precedent. The Sands Corporation and the Seminole Tribe have deep pockets and a lot at stake, so this was set up to be a brawl.
