It’s not often you hear that an unhappy player sues slot machine company, but it happens. A lawsuit has been filed against Torch Electronics accusing them of breaking state gambling laws. The suite also claims the company violated the state constitution which limits slot machines to gambling boats.
Paul Blankenship of Missouri filed the suit in the Crawford County circuit court last week and seeks class-action certification, adding the plaintiffs should be able to recover money they’ve lost at the games, as well as attorneys fees.
It’s the latest legal problem for Torch. The Linn County prosecutor in January charged the company with felony illegal gambling activity. And late last year, a Sullivan man sued the company, asking a Crawford County judge to shut down the company’s machines placed at a truck stop on Interstate 44 in Cuba.
The company in 2018 contributed $20,000 to a political action committee supporting Gov. Mike Parson. It retains three lobbyists in the Capitol, one of them is former House Speaker Steve Tilley, a Parson ally.
