A woman lost her slot jackpot in January due to a clerical error with her Social Security number. That player won thousands on a slot machine in a casino near Washington, DC. She handed over her ID and her Social Security number to the employee in charge of paying out the jackpot, but the employee made a small mistake taking down the information and was off by one number.
That one number made all the difference.
It turns out, the wrong social security number actually belonged to an actual person who was on the hook for a ton of unpaid child support. As a result, the player was flagged, the state immediately confiscated the jackpot, and Obie was forced to leave the casino without any of the winnings she was entitled to.
For her trouble, the casino gave Obie $200 in free play, a couple of drink vouchers, and instructions on how to clear up the mistake with the state.
