Gambling news for this week is all about the six major online gambling operators in America who have come together for responsible gaming. They have agreed to a set of standards to protect players and train employees, and it’s a good first step in the right direction.
A full 20% of players in the US now say they have participated in online gambling legally in the past year. And a lot of those bets came from mobile phones inside of NFL stadiums! But with so many people betting, and so much growth in the industry here in America, many people are wondering about responsible gaming.
NBC Sports has announced a new partnership with the BetMGM sports betting app. That partnership will put gambling content into NBC’s Football Night in America broadcast, with betting lines and betting advice on that night’s game! But BetMGM and five additional American sports betting and online gambling operators have also formed a responsible gambling partnership. And that should help protect players and train employees when it comes to possible gambling addiction.
The partnership agrees to operate only within legal markets, thus ensuring that there are already player protections in place. They also agree to abide by already established industry standards. There will be monitoring of player activity, remembering that some who need help and support. And they agree to promote a responsible gaming culture within their businesses.
The agreement will certainly not put an end relentless advertising blitz. Nor will it stop industry opponents from their critical remarks aimed at stopping gambling expansion. However, it is a good first step in the right direction.
