Your weekly gambling news update comes from Sin City, where at least three Vegas casinos will be demolished. Station Casinos have made the difficult decision to demolish several of their properties which have been closed since the pandemic began. But as we say goodbye to some, news from the Vegas Strip is a bit more promising, as a new project from a casino billionaire might mean that a new resort in coming.
Even though Nevada has seen record revenue numbers lately, the Coronavirus pandemic continues to stack up victims to it’s resume’. The latest of these are three Vegas casinos owned by Station which had yet to re-open following the 2020 shutdown. Now, Station Casinos has announced the permanent closure of Texas Station, Fiesta Rancho, and Fiesta Henderson. All will be demolish, and the prime real estate they occupy will now be sold.
Also closing permanently this week was the Travel Lodge on Las Vegas Boulevard. Even though this hotel is not one of the famous Vegas casinos it is on The Strip. And the property it occupies was recently purchased by billionaire casino owner Tillman Fertitta, who runs the Golden Nugget down on Fremont Street.
Industry insiders believe it’s almost certain that Mr. Fertitta will build a new casino resort on the site. And if he does, it will be the first newest of the Vegas casinos in the heart of the Strip since the Cosmo opened up back in 2010.
