Officials with the Nevada Gaming Control Board had their work cut out for them following a Treasure Island slot jackpot win. A player won nearly $230,000 on January 8th, but he and the casino were unaware that he hit a jackpot. By the time the dust settled and the machine data confirmed the jackpot, the mystery man was already on his way home.
A simple slot machine malfunction usually means that a jackpot is voided and players go home empty handed. In this case, however, the malfunction fooled the player and the casinos both. But state agents were not going to simply let this go. They reviewed surveillance video, electronic purchase records, ride share information, and even interviewed witnesses.
Finally, they identified an Arizona man who had visited Las Vegas. They contacted Robert Taylor with the good news of his Treasure Island slot jackpot… which came as a pleasant surprise. And, he can collect his winnings at Treasure Island this weekend.
The Chief of the Board’s Enforcement Division thanked the agents who found Taylor for helping to ensure the public trust in the gaming industry. “The Nevada Gaming Control Board is charged with the strict regulation of the gaming industry, the protection of the gaming public, and ensuring that the industry benefits the State of Nevada.”
